Background
In 2007, Jorn Spiertz, one of the founders, went to Barcelona for an Erasmus exchange program and experienced difficulties sub-letting his apartment in Maastricht for only three months. Also, arranging housing for the same period in Spain without speaking the local language appeared to be more difficult than expected. Because we recognized many more people experienced the same problem, we founded Erasmate.com two years later; an online portal where students can offer and search for housing Europe-wide.

We have a particular focus on Erasmus students and offer them one place to search and offer short-term housing in all participating Erasmus countries. With our specific focus on Erasmus students we significantly increase the chance of finding proper short-term housing in the country of choice and simultaneously sub-letting the apartment in the country of current residence.
We are well aware of students’ budgets and we realise that paying for mediation in housing arrangements is not on the top ten list of preferred spending during the Erasmus exchange. Therefore, students can use Erasmate.com free of charge!
