What is Erasmus Mundus?

While Erasmus is the European Commission’s exchange programme that gives Bachelor students across Europe the chance to spend a term of their studies abroad, Erasmus Mundus can be seen as its big brother.
Where does it come from?
Recognizing the success of the Erasmus Programme, the European Union launched Erasmus Mundus in 2004. This new scheme gives Master students and PhD candidates from all over the world the possibility to go abroad during their study programme. So far, the initiative is fairly small offering 115 Masters and 13 doctoral programmes around the globe.
How does it work?
A postgraduate programme via Erasmus Mundus is jointly run by a minimum of three institutions. During the one or two year study program, the student spends minimally one-third of their course at another University.
